The Safeguarding Office of the Hallam Catholic Safeguarding Commission is committed to providing training for clergy and religious, lay workers and volunteers in ministry with the Catholic Diocese of Hallam.
Training is part of the process of creating safe environments for all. It helps to raise awareness. Feedback from those who have attended sessions suggests that it helps people to feel more confident about what they do, especially if they need to raise concerns.
We are endeavouring to provide training to the standard set by "Towards a Culture of Safeguarding", and as part of that process we hope to have access to an e-learning programme to supplement the face to face training.
Events which are described as open seminars, are open to all with an interest subject to numbers.
At present all training events are free providing eligibility is agreed. There will however be a charge if places are booked and the place is not taken up.
Each year the Hallam Safeguarding Commission provides an annual safeguarding event as well as a variety of training courses including induction sessions for new safeguarding representatives, DBS & safe recruitment, common sense in safeguarding for adults and children, code of conduct and reporting concerns, and creating safe environments.
Please contact us if you have ideas about topics for training.
If you want to offer training, please provide details of your skills and experience and e-mail it to: email@example.com.
National Catholic Safeguarding Commission
The National Catholic Safeguarding Commission (NCSC) is an independent body working within the framework of the Catholic Church in England and Wales. It is mandated by the Conference of Bishops and Conference of Religious Congregations and has accountability across Dioceses and Religious Congregations to ensure that standards are met and policies are implemented.
Established in 2008 the NCSC sets the strategic direction of the Church’s safeguarding policy for children and vulnerable adults. It also monitors and audits the compliance of the Church with safeguarding procedures. The NCSC has sixteen members who bring together a wide range of knowledge, skill and expertise in safeguarding matters, and in state and canon law. For further details see www.catholicsafeguarding.org.uk, email: firstname.lastname@example.org or phone 07530 972830.
The Commission has launched its E-learning programme
If you have a role working with children, young people or adults who may be vulnerable, or if you are a parent who wants to understand on-line safety, please have a look at the e-learning safeguarding brochure. This explains what programmes are available via e-learning and how to access the programmes that interest you.
This e-learning package is part of the Church’s commitment to safeguarding, recognising we all have a role to play in creating a safe environment.
We have worked with EduCare to develop a bespoke e-learning package available to all members of the Catholic Community in England and Wales.
The launch of the e-learning programme is part of the Church’s ongoing commitment to safeguarding. We want every member of the Catholic community in England and Wales to have the opportunity to access safeguarding learning with a view to raising awareness, increasing understanding and promoting best practice. The Catholic Church in England and Wales is possibly the first faith community in the UK, to offer safeguarding e-learning to everyone in the Catholic community free of charge.
