Frank and Wendy Wolverson Celebrate Diamond Wedding

Frank was born in Maltby and Wendy was born in Tidworth, Hampshire, living in London before coming to Maltby in 1950.

Frank converted to Catholism in 1951 and met Wendy when they were in the church choir.  After Benediction on Sunday evenings a group of them would go to the dances at St Mary’s School, Maltby.

Frank, on starting to do bingo to raise funds for the new church, asked Wendy if she would help selling the tickets, and their relationship progressed from there!  They were married on 23 August, 1958 at St Mary Magdalene Church in Maltby.

In 1962, Frank became Cub Scout Leader for St Mary’s Cubs, which he continued for 26 years, after which he became Group Chairman, and Group President.  Wendy supported him during this time organising trips, etc and as Group Treasurer.

Frank and Wendy ran a Sequence Dance Club for a number of years and Wendy also ran a ‘Drop-in’ Group.    Frank played football in his younger days and also ran Cub football and boys’ football in the various leagues in the Maltby and Rotherham area.  He played crown green bowls in later years and ran indoor mat bowls in the Colman Centre two afternoons a week in winter.

In 1988 Frank received the Bene Merenti medal from the Pope for services to the youth of the parish and he was, until 3 years ago, a Eucharist Minister.

Frank and Wendy have one son, Vincent, who served 30 years in the RAF and now lives in Norwich with his wife and son, Mark.
